About the event
CULTUREELS - Ethnographic Film Collective presents on Monday November 6 in Kino Regina the award-winning documentary film Flying Paper, showcasing the uplifting story of Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip on a quest to shatter the Guinness World Record for the most kites ever flown.
The feature-length film is directed by Nitin Sawhney & Roger Hill and co-produced with Anne Paq, Abeer Ahmed, and young filmmakers in Gaza (2010-2013). The film's duration is 52 min and language used in the film is Arabic, although the film will be screened with English subtitles. The event is free of charge and open to everyone.

A statement from director Nitin Sawhney, who will be present to discuss the film:
“We created this film with extraordinary Palestinian children in the village of Seifa and Jabaliya refugee camp in Northern Gaza. Working on this film and our participatory media workshops in Gaza from 2010-2013 was the most memorable time of my life, and transformed us all so deeply.
Now 10 years later it's been heart-wrenching seeing the lives of these young Palestinians devastated by yet another catastrophic war and disastrous blockade of Gaza. I hope this film offers a special window into their lives to help humanize their everyday reality, joy and aspirations.”
The attendees are encouraged to support contributions for humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza. There are many dedicated organizations including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF), and Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). You can donate to any of them online at UNRWA.org, PCRF.net & MAP.org.uk
